Raphael & His Circle &
The Masterpieces of the Italian Galleries
Indulge in Italian Art with CiaoDC at the National Gallery of Art featuring two private tours: Raphael and His Circle and The Italian Galleries led by Senior Lecturer, Erik Denker. Celebrate the 500th Anniversary of Raphael’s Death with Raphael and His Circle and the masterpieces and history featured in the Italian Galleries.
Raffaelo di Giovanni Santi (1483-1520) is among the foremost figures of the classical tradition in Western painting. In celebration of the 500th anniversary of his death, Raphael and His Circle presents 26 prints and drawings from the Gallery’s collection. The exhibition features four drawings by the Renaissance master himself as well as works by his contemporaries. The Gallery’s permanent display of its paintings by Raphael—the largest and most important group outside of Europe—complements the exhibition.
